Tulloch Engineering is a progressive consulting firm that provides engineering, land surveying, environmental and mapping services. We employ close to 200 professionals working from six offices throughout Ontario.
Great Lakes Environmental Services (GLES), a division of Tulloch Engineering, provides practical environmental solutions to industry, government and private sectors. Our biologists, engineers and technicians work together to provide a unique blend of expertise to our clients. Our field of expertise includes environmental assessment, aquatic and terrestrial studies, erosion and sediment control, regulatory approvals, environmental inspections during construction, fish habitat restoration, hydrology and hydraulics. We are currently looking for a full time Senior Fisheries Biologist to join our Sudbury team.
Qualifications
- University degree in fisheries biology, aquatic ecology or environmental biology;
- 5-10 years of fisheries related experience (consulting experience an asset);
- Project management experience with environmental projects including environmental assessments and fisheries and aquatic investigations;
- Experience supervising and advising project personnel;
- Sound proposal and technical report writing skills;
- Excellent working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation (Fisheries Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Species at Risk Act, and Endangered Species Act etc.);
- Knowledge of the Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol an asset;
- Field experience including the identification of fish and fish habitat, fisheries assessments including electrofishing and other methods of fish collection;
- Vegetation and avian identification skills are an asset; and
- Willing to travel for field work.
Job Duties
The Senior Fisheries Biologist will be responsible for:- Project Management of fisheries and aquatic related projects, including budget tracking, resource allocation, coordination, planning and scheduling;
- Design, implementation and coordination of fisheries and aquatic field studies;
- Preparation of proposals, fee estimates and technical reports;
- Communication with clients, regulatory agencies and team members;
- Providing practical and economic solutions to clients;
- Reviewing client deliverables (proposals, reports etc) to ensure technical quality; and
- Providing guidance and training to junior and intermediate staff.
The successful candidate must be customer service oriented and be proactive in anticipating and resolving problems. They should be able to prioritize their workload on a daily basis, based on business impacts. Work will be carried out in a team environment.
