Duckworth and Highway 400 Interchange

In 2008, The City of Barrie tendered the detail design for improvements to the interchange at Highway 400 and Duckworth Street to address the complicated geometry of the Duckworth underpass and the high traffic volume on Duckworth Street.  Engineering surveys of the existing interchange and a two kilometre stretch of Highway 400, one of Canada’s busiest highways, were required.

Tulloch was retained to provide all required geomatics services to facilitate the design.   Second order horizontal and vertical control was established along the Highway 400 corridor and throughout the remaining project limits using static GPS and levels.  Control was strategically established to provide sufficient sight lines for quick data acquisition on the Highway 400 surface.  Two traffic control consultants were utilized for the project due to the complex interchange configuration and high traffic volumes.  Multiple survey crews using total stations were able to capture all geospatial data in a short time period.  This significantly minimized the disturbance of the traffic through the City of Barrie’s main highway corridor. Our talented team of survey technologists brought together innovative and traditional survey techniques to deliver this project on time, within budgetary constraints, to the satisfaction of our client.
