Between 2004 and 2008, our talent staff of construction management professionals provided first-rate contract administration services to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario to ensure the ongoing success of an 8 km section of new four-lane corridor on the Trans Canada Highway, Highway 17 east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The terrain consisted of extremely soft compressible clays with limited bearing capacity. The work involved the utilization of rock fill surcharge to accelerate the consolidation of the road base. Ground stability was continually monitored during this consolidation process.
Three new bridges were built on sensitive soils including two overpass structures over the Canadian National Railway; SSM to Sudbury Line. At the completion of the consolidation phase, the rock surcharge was removed and the roadway was completed using superpave asphalt material. This complex geotechnical design was successfully administered, completed on time and to the satisfaction of our client.
