The quest for new sources of renewable energy has taken Tulloch Engineering into British Colombia. Tulloch Geomatics has been retained to mark out the clearing limits and establish horizontal and vertical control on the Quality Wind Project by Capital Power Corporation near Tumbler Ridge, BC. This is a 79 turbine, 142 megawatt wind farm to be constructed over the next two years.
This has been a steady project for Tulloch Geomatics since October of 2010, with construction of the site anticipated to be complete by 2013. Following our involvement of marking the clearing limits and establishing vertical and horizontal control of the renewable energy site includes the potential for layout and construction surveys of the roads and turbine sites. Survey crews have found conditions to be challenging in the unfamiliar terrain with sharp decreases in temperature, changing weather conditions and high altitudes.
This project is located near the town of Tumbler Ridge, BC. A town with a population of approximately 2500, Tumbler Ridge is a historic coal mining town in the Canadian Rockies. In the past decade, Tumbler Ridge has seen much change with coal mines closing and reopening, along with the shift to renewable energy.
This is Tulloch's third project with Mortenson Canada. Tulloch supports the growth and positive impact of renewable energy projects and looks forward to being involved in many more environmentally friendly projects.
