Pointe Au Baril Waterfront Development

The South Shore Road Reconstruction was completed over a roadway length of approximately 800m between Highway 69 and the Pointe au Baril Community Centre. Road reconstruction works included the provision of sub-base and base granulars, new asphalt traveling surface, curb, and gutter. An asphalt curbside sidewalk (ranging from 1.5m to 2.0m wide) was provided throughout the length of the corridor, in addition to central parking areas and drainage improvements. Additional finishing components included street lighting, signage and line painting. Construction of a 180 metre long shoreline soldier pile retaining wall was also completed in order to support South Shore Road along the length of the existing wood crib wharf. Wall construction required removal of existing cribs, installation of the soldier pile retaining wall, and reinstatement of granular fill. The municipal wharf component of the project included provision of floating docks, shoreline boardwalk, contractor wharf, and a lake access ramp for snowmobiles. The proposed waterfront park will provides a public green space for local residents and tourists. This component included public washroom facilities, a dock manager’s office, access to the boardwalk and floating docks, and observation and activity pavilions.
