Blackstone-Crane Lake Road Reconstruction Project

The Blackstone Crane Lake Road and Healey Lake Road reconstruction projects consist of a combined rural road length of 26.5 km located in the Township of Archipelago, south of Parry Sound. The roads provide year round access for many cottages located on Blackstone Crane Lake, Healey Lake, and Georgian Bay. Tulloch Engineering was retained by the Township of Archipelago to undertake the survey, design, and contract administration of the reconstruction projects with the goal of maximizing the $8,000,000.00 stimulus project budget.

The project was completed in three phases, with Weeks Construction completing the earthworks and rock removal on Blackstone Crane Lake Road, Denis Gratton Construction completing the earthworks and rock removal on Healey Lake Road, and Fowler Construction completing the final grading and paving of both roads. Road reconstruction works included major improvements to the vertical profile of the roads to improve visual sightlines and road safety while maintaining the existing horizontal alignment in order to keep the feel of a ‘cottage road’.
