Tulloch Engineering was retained by the City of Elliot Lake to complete sanitary sewer improvements along the Highway 108 corridor and three adjoining streets. The improvements included the decommissioning of three pump stations, installation of a new pump station, gravity sewers, sewer forcemain and road reconstruction. Tulloch Professionals completed the design, approval and tendering.
The existing sewer configuration required three pump stations working in series to lift the sewage to a point in the existing system where it could tie into a large forcemain. The sewer improvements completed included removal of the three existing pump stations and reversing the flows to a new and much larger pump station coupled with a new 500m sewer forcemain.
Reversing the existing flows required the installation of 1200m of gravity sewer, 17 sewer structures and reconnection of all existing services. As with all “intown” work, numerous field adjustments were required to accommodate all of the below grade infrastructure. Contract Administration was completed to the satisfaction of the client.
